Growing Up So Fast! May 2010

May was a busy time with the end of school and the transition to summer (especially as our housing situation was still unknown at that point). Lorelei continued to amaze Steve and myself with her emerging personality, social, emotional, and physical development--not to mention that she just seemed to get cuter and cuter each day!!!

We met up with our friends Julian, Sam, and their daughter Leah for breakfast one day. I love how it looks like the girls are having a chat here--Lorelei is very intent on the story that Leah is telling her.

The next week we met the same friends at Tilden park for a picnic and a visit to the Little Farm. Lorelei, who until this point had never picked up any food items to put in her mouth (plenty of non food items though), was really interested in Leah's crackers. I thought it was just the crinkly sounding packaging, but I decided to hand her one anyways...she ate it like a pro! It was so adorable to watch her independently feed herself and her proud cracker crumb smile was the best!

This hand-knit set was so beautiful! Lorelei even wore the hat for quite some time before pulling it off!! The picture doesn't do the sweater or Lorelei justice--she was absolutely beautiful and picture perfect sweetness in this sweater. Thank goodness we had some chilly mornings so we could get plenty of use out of these items!

Such a silly goose! I tried to take the 8 month shot on my own...but struggled to get my active little girl to sit still, smile, and not chew on the sign. LOL. I tried taping the sign above her head, but she just turned around. May 20, 2010!! At 8 months Lorelei could sit and happily play for quite a while, she had a really long reach (and some strong tummy muscles) to pull herself back to center if she got off balance. Clapping hands is a favorite new trick (video to come) and feeding herself toast or crackers is really exciting. She had excellent pincer grasp for cheerios--but never actually puts the cheerios in her mouth! She just inspected them carefully and put them down. She also enjoys water from her sippy cup (all on her own), especially if you put ice cubes in it!

For my first Mother's Day, Lorelei made me a card with Daddy's help. Here she is with the crayon.

Then, after a little bit of a sleep-in, a snuggle in bed with my dozing daughter and my book (!), I was treated to a special breakfast of french toast, bacon, fruit, and orange juice. Good work team!

After breakfast we hiked to the top of a nearby hill in the Acalanes Open Space. Gorgeous view! (Yes, those are cumulonimbus clouds and there was rain on the way down).
Yay, for the BOB! The steep, single track was no problem.

June and July, plus some video footage, coming soon!!
