Leaps and Bounds: I *heart* emus

I saw someone wearing a classic I *heart* NY shirt the other day, which prompted me to think of what I would put on an "I *heart*" shirt for Lorelei. So here is a list (and explanations as needed) of some of her favorite things.

1. I *heart* emus Yes, you read that correctly, Lorelei loves emus. The background: on our way to daycare is a large piece of property and the owner has emus, llamas, ponies, and cattle. We most frequently see the emus and every time we go past we need to slow down and look for them (yes, we are a traffic hazard). She is so delighted to see them when they are out and about (and SO disappointed when they "must be inside taking a nap").

2. I *heart* babies  Lorelei adores babies...hey they are the only people smaller than her! Any infant or child in a stroller is a baby. She has a baby doll (named Baby...super creative naming points earned) that she diapers, hugs, holds, pushes in the swing, wraps up in a blanket, feeds with a spoon and cup, and puts down to bed. Oh! And takes her for walks in a stroller. There is a new baby at daycare and each day that I pick Lorelei up, Lorelei points out where the baby swings and has tummy time. She loves to talk to the baby and make her smile. Lorelei has lots of love to give.

3. I *heart* puzzles  Lorelei loves to play with her wooden puzzles! She has several at home and likes to spread all of the pieces (from multiple puzzles) all over the floor and then fit the pieces in. She'll place a piece over the wrong spot (on purpose) and say "Nooo!" and giggle, because she knows exactly where it goes.

4. I *heart* swimming  Lorelei still loves the water and our weekly swim lessons. On family walks, we've passed by the local rec team pool and caught a couple of swim meets. She was entranced by the big kids and said "Again!" at the end of the races. She has been known to practice in the bathtub and even on dry land! She has even taken her wash cloths and turned them into diving mats for her ducky during bath time.

5. I *heart* friends My sweet girl is quite the social butterfly! She has started chatting about her friends at school (and can rattle off their names), enjoys our summer time play dates with other babes, and asks after people once we've gone home. At school she now has a very long goodbye process that involves lots of hugs and "bye-byes".

L, of course, has many other loves: books, the chickens, eggs, tea parties, music, smoothies, the parks, shoes, stickers, and the store (namely Trader Joe's where she frequently gets stickers). And then there are her special loves: the yellow blankie, Bunny, Piggy, Bear, Julius (the orange monkey), and her bink. {Not to mention Mommy and Daddy ;) }

Here is some summer time smoothie love:
